Adedeji takes over Nami’s position as FIRS Executive Chairman – Acting until he is ratified by the National Assembly, President Bola Tinubu has nominated Zacchaus Adedeji as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
Adedeji will serve in an interim capacity for a period of 90 days before being confirmed as the substantive Executive Chairman for an initial term of four years, renewable for an additional four years.
The accounting genius was born in Oyo State and educated at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Master of Science in Accounting, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Sector Finance. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in Nigeria (CITN) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria (ICAN). He completed the government programme at the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School.
A one-time Commissioner of Finance in Oyo State and manager at the Procter & Gamble Company. Former Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), a national organisation.Adedeji is President Tinubu’s current Special Adviser, Revenue.
Thus, effective immediately, the President ordered the outgoing Chairman of the Financial Intelligence and Research Service (FIRS), Mr. Muhammad Nami, to begin a three-month pre-retirement leave in accordance with Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, leading to his eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023.Adedeji’s presidency, according to the presidency, begins immediately.
