Ikeja Electric Announces Resumption of Meter Deployment – In a promising move for electricity consumers, Ikeja Electric recently confirmed that electricity distribution companies (Discos) are gearing up to recommence the distribution of prepaid meters under the Meter Assets Provider (MAP) programme.
During a virtual stakeholders’ forum, Morenikeji Amosun, the Head of the Metering Team for Ikeja Electric, made this exciting announcement. Amosun informed that a fresh batch of meters has already been imported through the MAP programme, and deployment will commence shortly.
For customers who have previously placed their orders at the older price points, there’s more good news. Amosun assured that these customers would receive their meters without any need for additional payment, honoring the prices at the time of their order. However, those placing new orders should be aware that the pricing will now reflect the updated rates set by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The primary goal behind this initiative is twofold: to address the existing backlog of orders and to enhance meter accessibility for all electricity consumers.
“We can assure you that MAPs has brought in new meters, and customers will start receiving them in the upcoming week and beyond,” Amosun said. He further elaborated that the initial focus would be on fulfilling orders placed a few months back at the old prices. He emphasized, “For those that had paid old prices, no additional payment would be required from them before they receive their meters. But new orders would reflect the updated prices.”
This development signals a positive step forward in ensuring transparency and efficiency in electricity consumption and billing for Nigerians.
